Penang Street Art

It has been a while. A lot of people had posted photos of Penang Street Art on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Tempted, but I have no time to pay "them" a visit last year. The TVB drama "Outbound Love" (单恋双城) also have a lot of street art scene. Argh... I wanna take photos of those arts before they fade out. And yes!! Finally, my super duper long holiday allows me to do so.

Penang Street Arts are painted by Ernest Zacharevic, a Lithuanian-born artist, and some by other artists. They are located at different streets so you need to do some homework to look for all of them. I learnt from mistakes. We did not check the locations of any murals beforehand and missed out a lot of murals on Day 1. Thus, we need to go and walk under the hot sun the next day to finish the task. Sounds very serious to take photos of all murals. XD

#1 Ernest's Murals

"Boy on a Bike" mural at Ah Quee Street (Lebuh Ah Quee). There is another mural beside it but already faded. It should be a "Little Boy with Pet Dinosaur". Wasted. Sigh.

"Boy on Chair" Mural at Cannon Street.
The little boy is so cute! And this mural appears many times in the drama I mentioned. =D

"Little Girl In Blue" Mural at Muntri Street.
You can walk along this street and look for some interesting shops and a camera museum (quite new in town). =)

"The Awaiting Trishaw Paddler" at Penang Road

This mural located at Armenian Street Art Cafe is fading. Glad that my friend spotted it. =)
This uncle is actually Ernest's neighbour.

Some murals are not drawn by Ernest. And hence I did some research after my visit to street art to know more about the artists. And let's take a look and others' art. =)

#2 : Learn Penang Hokkien through Art.
This is drawn by 2 artist of 20+ year-old within 2 hours. I'm amazed by their job.

This purple wall is located between Lebuh Armenian and Lorong Soo Hong

Here's some common Penang Hokkien terms. "Bo lui" (no money), "Gui Lui" (How much), "Ho Chiak" (Delicious), etc etc

And this cute little boy saying "Kah Lu Kong Hokkien" (Teach you speak Hokkien). =)

And another mural on the same wall. =)

#3 Minions
Minions are everywhere if you're trying to search for street art. However, due to lack of knowledge, I couldn't find who's the artist. =( But they are really cute.

Minion mural is everywhere! Here's one of them!

This one is famous! Even Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng took photo with it too! It is located at Lorong Soo Hong. =)

Another Minion mural at Lebuh Gat Chulia. Opposite the swing mural.

And this! Poor minion!!

#4 Louis Gan's Murals
Another young and talented artist from Penang. I'm sure you know his murals well. Famous! =)

Two Children Playing Basketball by Louis Gan, at Lebuh Gat Chulia

Brother and sister on a swing, by Louis Gan, at Lebuh Gat Chulia.

Nostalgic Meal Order by Louis Gan. Located at Lorong Kinta.

#5 101 Lost Kittens
And here's the "101 Lost Kittens" murals. These are not Ernest's art as well. This is a project by a group of artists from Bukit Mertajam, Kuala Lumpur and Thailand, trying to create awareness to help stray animals to find homes. Very good idea and these murals are really beautiful.

101 Lost Kittens Project: The Real Bruce Lee would never do this at Lebuh Ah Quee

Another little kitten looking at Bruce Lee. Awwww.... "Little Blue Kitty" Mural.

101 Lost Kittens Project: Cat & Humans Happily Living Together at Lebuh Pantai

101 Lost Kittens Project: "Skippy to Penang for animal awareness" and also "The Giant Rat" at Lebuh Armenian

101 Lost Kittens Project: Love me like your fortune cat at Gat Lebuh Armenian
101 Lost Kittens Project: I can help catch rats at Lebuh Armenian

101 Lost Kittens Project: No animal discrimination at Lebuh Armenian

#6 OTHERS
Some other murals are found, but I didn't know who's the artist. Pretty creative work though =D

"I Want Pau" Mural at Lebuh Gat Armenian

It is pretty challenging to walk under the hot sun to search for street art. You need to be determine. Remember to bring umbrella and apply lots of sunscreen to prevent sunburn. Have fun searching as my list isn't extensive enough. =)
